Cal High Wrestling Coach Arrested for Alleged Relationship with Student

 

A Cal High wrestling coach is facing charges of child molestation due to allegedly having a relationship with minors.

California High School wrestling coach Kevin Lopez, age 27, was arrested on for reportedly performing “lewd conduct” with multiple identified male suspects.

Lopez was arrested on September 9th, and files were charged against him on September 12th. Letters were sent out to parents on September 10th informing them about the incident.

Lopez also served in the youth ministry for New Life Church in San Ramon and Alamo. New Life Church along with the San Ramon Unified School district have agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

According to a San Ramon Police Department official press release, twenty felony charges were filed against Lopez by Contra Costa District Attorney, including thirteen counts of “Lewd Act Upon Child Age 14-15,” two counts of “Arrangement of Meeting with a Minor for Purpose of Engaging in Certain Lewd and Lascivious Behavior,” and two counts of “Distributing/Exhibiting Lewd Matter to a Minor.”

Terrey Koehne, SRVUSD spokesperson, stated that Lopez was never employed by the school district and was instead a “walk-on-coach.” Despite this status, Lopez has worked at Cal since 2005 and was promoted to head wrestling coach in 2012.

According to the police press release, multiple male victims have been identified. Lopez remains in custody, with a bail set at $2,125,000.

Thirteen Counts – Lewd Act Upon Child Age 14-15

Two Counts – Arrangement of Meeting with a Minor for Purpose of Engaging in Certain Lewd and Lascivious Behavior

One Count – Using Minor for Noncommercial Sex Acts – Two counts – Distributing/Exhibiting Lewd Matter to a Minor

One count – Contacting Minor for purpose of Engaging in Lewd and Lascivious Behavior with a Minor

One count – Lewd Act Upon Child Under Age 14
