Letter From the Editor
If I could describe Monte Vista’s journalism program in one word, it would be nosy. Not
just because of our love for gossip or a really good story, but because in today’s age of echo
chambers and friend group bubbles, it’s important to look beyond our own circles. To wonder
about other people’s opinions on world events, be curious about where classmates are spending
their weekends, and notice what makes people you hardly know laugh. As someone who has
been guilty of staying in her own bubble, I will admit that writing for The Stampede has pushed
me to talk to people I never would have before. It’s taught me to see others not as the enemy, but
as people with perspectives worth hearing. That’s the feeling I hope to capture in this year’s
editions as Editor-in-Chief.
That being said, welcome to our first mini edition of the paper! I wanted this issue to
spotlight the talent of this year’s reporters and editors, and give you a glimpse of what’s ahead.
One of my favorite moments as an editor last year was flipping through the paper’s archives.
Reading old articles felt surreal, like stepping back in time. That’s what I hope this paper
becomes: a time capsule, filled with the jokes, ideas, and stories that define Monte Vista at this
moment in time. When future students look back at these pages, I hope they’ll laugh at the same
things we did and revisit the world through our eyes. But, most of all, I hope that as you flip
through them today, you see yourself represented here, too.
Sincerely,
Srishti Mazumder
Editor-In-Chief
