As the San Francisco Giants get ready for the 2026 season, they’re hoping to turn past average years, full of ups and downs, into one where they really compete. After finishing with a record of 81-81 last season, the Giants went into the offseason with their eyes set on improving key parts of the team while still keeping an eye on the future. The front office added a few key players to strengthen the offense and add more depth to the pitching staff.
One of the signings was outfielder Harrison Bader. His speed should start making an impact right away at Oracle Park. Bader, known for his range and athleticism, brings great defense to the outfield and gives the clubhouse some leadership and experience.
“I think Bader is going to make a big difference defensively in center field” said Junior Devin Brillant.
The Giants signed right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle to a one-year deal to strengthen their pitching staff. Mahle has shown in past seasons that he can pitch deep into games when he’s healthy. The team also signed veteran pitcher Michael Fulmer to a minor league contract, giving the struggling bullpen some experience and more options. San Francisco made another move, signing catcher Daniel Susac. He’s a young player who shows promise on the offensive side. However, the Giants also had a few players leave.
Pitcher Justin Verlander left as a free agent, and with other roster changes, there were chances for younger players to step up and take on bigger roles. These changes show that the Giants are in a phase where they’re competing and developing young players. A lot of the buzz about the 2026 season comes from the team’s young talent. Bryce Eldridge, the team’s top prospect, is likely to compete for a bigger role this season after getting some experience last year. His power could give the lineup the boost that it really needs.
“If Bryce is ready to go this year, I think he could be one of the best players in the league,” said Junior Jayden Sran.
As the season goes on, the Giants might give other players from their farm system a shot, as they’ve shown they want to develop talent from inside the organization. Although the Giants have improved a lot this season, they still face a challenge with the strong teams in the NL West. The Dodgers and Padres being division rivals are still tough opponents. San Francisco will need consistent pitching and strong hitting to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team is aiming for the postseason and believes the changes they made in the offseason might help them pull through close games against tough opponents. The Giants are going into 2026 with a mix of leaders, smart offseason signings, and stars like Willy Adames and Rafael Devers that can hopefully get the Giants over the postseason bump. It’s still unclear if these changes will get the Giants into the playoffs when they are in the toughest division in baseball. However, one thing is obvious, the Giants are working hard to make this season a step closer to winning another championship.
