Ife Oladoja- MV Choir member
How do you practice a new song?
We go through it once just by sight reading, and eventually with a lot of training from Mr. Koliha, we will get it right.
Do you have any advice for other musicians?
I would say just to stick with it, even though at times it can be hard and seem unfair, you have to stick with the things you love, and things will turn out the way they should.
Why do you like singing?
I love singing because it is a form of expression, and it brings joy to people. Mr. Koliha often says, “ Music is the language of the world”, and it’s just a lot of fun.
What inspired you to start singing?
I was always singing when I was little, so I began singing with my church and the Piedmont Choir, and continued with it when I joined the Monte Vista Choir.
What is your favorite part about singing?
I love it because it’s a lot of fun, and I enjoy hearing the other sections of the choir singing and putting everything together.
If you were a musical instrument which would you be?
I would be a either a french horn because they are unique or a ukelele because I know how to play it.
What is your favorite genre of music?
R&B but also pop. I also really like some classics like Earth, Wind, and Fire, the Isley Brothers, and Beyonce.
Who are your favorite musicians?
John Legend and Corinne Bailey Rae.
How do you prep for a performance?
Practice, practice, practice every single day at choir and also dress rhersals. I also try to remember the notes and sight reading when I go home to do my best to know my part.
Do you plan to continue in college?
One way or another I plan to sing either through my school, local programs, or church.
