Sabrina’s breakout hit of 2024, “Espresso,” finally put the 26-year-old in the public eye. After her hit album Short and Sweet, fans have been eagerly anticipating her next release. Now that Man’s Best Friend is officially out, it definitely lives up to the hype of its predecessor.
The most popular song from the album is “Manchild,” reaching number one on the Billboard Charts and staying there for twelve weeks. It’s also important to note that her song “Tears” has also been prevalent recently. Trending on sites like YouTube, it’s another popular track from her album for its instrumental dance break and its engaging chorus.
“My favorite song from the album is probably ‘Manchild,’” says Calista Ruan, a freshman at Monte Vista.
Another fan-favorite,“When Did You Get Hot?”, started a new TikTok trend of people showing themselves before and after they glow up. The trend is aptly called the “When did you get hot?” trend. For example, if you were getting ready for an event, you would show yourself before and after putting on makeup and skincare.
This is Sabrina’s seventh album, and a follow-up to the very successful Short n’ Sweet album she put out previously. The former Disney star, who acted in Girl Meets World, has been releasing music since 2014, but it started to gain traction last year. That’s not to say she didn’t have some popular songs before the album “Short n’ Sweet,”. One example is her song “Thumbs”, which trended on TikTok during the pandemic for its powerful meaning and exciting chorus.
The album cover, however, has sparked some controversy amongst fans. It depicts a man holding Sabrina by the hair, while she crouches near his legs. Fans have called this suggestive or gross. Sabrina actually responded, talking about how she didn’t see anything wrong with the cover. It doesn’t help that some may view her music as boring or overrated, since some of her songs can sound similar. However, that’s just her style, and after so long without the spotlight, it is great that she’s finding her voice and her sound as a music artist.
Even though not everyone might enjoy the album, it’s clear that it is a great and popular album and one of Carpenter’s best. Its songs are fun, catchy, and very enjoyable to listen to.
