New Musty Confessions Post
FOMO is a scary thing. One minute, you’re sleeping, and the next, you’re at school, watching your friends gossip about the drama you weren’t there for. Lucky for you, Monte Vista has got you covered, with a new trend in teenage communications: an anonymous Instagram account for student gossip called Musty Confessions. But it turns out that spilling secrets isn’t the most productive of hobbies. So inevitably, the infamous account stopped posting between December of 2023 and September of 2024, leaving a void in drama-starved teenagers everywhere.
MV has a variety of accounts, whether they’re for homecoming proposals, college acceptances, or the many clubs and departments at MV. However, no one would have guessed that one based on student scandals would get more traction than the official MVHS account.
Amassing over 1,300 followers and over 400 posts, Musty Confessions was the talk of the school before its ban. Student’s couldn’t tell you what they learned in class, but they could tell you every detail of Musty’s post that day. Whether it was someone cheating on their partner, or getting revenge over a fallen friendship, students quickly fell in love with the idea of reading about scandals on the bus ride to school.
Using only initials to gossip on it’s prospects, some posts are more helpful than others:

Students’ opinion on the account is pretty divided since they don’t seem to be able to find the line between cyber bullying and gossip.
“Well, I feel like all gossip affects someone, hurts someone else,” said sophomore Leyla Alimukhamedova. “I feel like a lot of students don’t like admitting how into gossip we all are…so at the end of the day it’s sort of like a guilty pleasure”.
On the other hand, one student took to submitting a confession which Musty posted saying, “Musty Confessions, don’t listen to the haters. I love you and you love me. We do not owe anyone anything.”
Talk about love-struck.
Then there’s sophomore Tanya Mishra’s perspective, a victim of Musty Confessions.
“First of all, I didn’t know what [being mentioned] meant and second of all, I didn’t know who it was coming from,” Mishra said. “And that just made me kind of uncomfortable in class because… I didn’t know what I did wrong and I would have fixed it if I knew who it was.”
Whether the person who posted about her was doing it because they were jealous or because they had real beef, the fact is it could have been resolved with a simple conversation, potentially saving a friendship.
Gossip will always be around because Monte Vista is a highschool filled with teenagers in the same place, 180 days a year. But although all gossip is going to hurt someone, the opinion on whether you should share some else’s business is, surprisingly, divided.
For example, listen to mv.hitlist’s opinion, the anonymous and, to some degree, copycat account of Musty Confessions.
When asked the difference between their and Musty’s account, they said “they made that account to spread beef, I made this account to anonymously mess with people.”
When discussing the cyber bullying aspect to this, mv.hitlist said, “no[it’s not] because I make sure it’s not obvious who it is…plus I clearly state that it’s a joke and I take down any post if they ask me too.”
Funny enough, against all odds, Musty Confessions posted again on Monday evening, September 9th, 2024. Almost a year later, it seems the account is back for the new school year, for a fresh season of drama. Musty announced its arrival with a very classy story on Instagram that said, “Guess who’s back” followed by a poll of the “freakiest grade.”
What a comeback, right?
For whatever reason, Musty has risen from the ashes of broken relationships, and is flying high off of student gossip. But, ultimately, it’s up to you to decide the line between bullying and harmless drama. One thing we know for sure is with Musty Confessions back, this year is going to be anything but boring.
