Middle school teacher arrested for child pornography
Mitchell Wolf, a well known math teacher at Diablo Vista Middle School, was arrested this August for possession of child pornography.
He was arrested on Friday August 22nd after a forced search warrant went through his home in Danville and uncovered the evidence, he was then taken to the County Jail located in Martinez. The bail was one million dollars.
His arrest was supported by a tip received by law enforcement. The actual investigation was lead by the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).
Rumors also suggest that Mr. Wolf was viewing the content on a device with or connected to the school’s wifi. He possessed over 600 images and videos total on computers as well as DVD disks.
He was taken to court on Tuesday August 26th where he plead not guilty. He was eventually released on bail.
Mr. Wolf had been with Diablo Vista as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher for 12 years. After hearing this news, it has disappointed many of his students that enjoyed him as a teacher.
Kelsey Scott, Junior at MV, was especially disappointed upon hearing this news as she was his long time neighbor and student of his for two years.
“When I heard the news I couldn’t believe it and I felt really disappointed, but the Mr. Wolf I knew was helpful and a positive influence in my life,” said Kelsey Scott. “No matter what bad choices he has made now doesn’t change how much I grew as a math student with him as my teacher and I at least owe him that much.”
Middle school students were unaware and shocked at the news. Eighth grader, Lily Arbabaraghi, explained how her and her class reacted to the news.
“People in my grade were surprised, especially the students who had him last year, because no one ever thought he would do that sort of thing,” said Lily Arbabaraghi.
The incident seemed to have changed the way students look at other teachers as well.
“It seems like now everyone is acting really aware of all the teachers and are being very ‘picky’ about them,” said Lily. “Some people are saying stuff like ‘This teacher is creepy’ or ‘This teacher is so weird’”.
According to an article posted by ktvu.com, a district spokesman named Terry Koehne said that the news of Wolf’s allegations “shocked and saddened” the staff within the district. She said they would participate in helping the police to further investigate the situation.
